Brighton Outplayed in Rome

Brighton & Hove Albion were outplayed by AS Roma in the first leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League Round of 16 tie on Thursday night.

After a goalless first half, Roma took the lead through Paulo Dybala in the 54th minute. Romelu Lukaku doubled the lead just three minutes later, before Gianluca Mancini and Bryan Cristante added further goals in the 64th and 68th minutes respectively.

Brighton's only goal came from Danny Welbeck in the 75th minute, but it was a mere consolation as Roma ran out comfortable 4-1 winners on the night.

The result leaves Brighton with a mountain to climb in the second leg at the Amex Stadium next week. They will need to score at least three goals without conceding in order to progress to the quarter-finals.
